Adventure On The Road : The Oregon Coast
Our epic road trip from California to Oregon has been intertwined with city life and nature. After two amazing days in Portland, Oregon, we are embarking back on our journey to connect with nature on the Oregon Coast. We tried…more like barely made an effort… to get an early start this morning. With the gloomy skies still lingering, it just was too tempting to stay snuggled under the warm covers just a little bit longer.
The Oregon Coast is a little over an hour from Portland, taking you through towering evergreens and small farm towns until you reach the 101 which you can take all the way North to Washington or South to San Diego.
After a few hours along the winding roads of the Oregon Coast, we pulled over to eat lunch at the Pelican Pub and Brewery in Cape Kiwanda. The food was tasty, the staff was friendly, but nothing compared to this view…
Further along the coast, we stopped in a little town to watch the water crash fiercely against the rocks. It was a beautiful sunny day, but the air was brisk from the ocean mist, so we didn’t linger for long.
This little guy was on high alert…
Not really sure where to go next, we continued on down the coast until we came upon a sign that said the Devil’s Punch Bowl. It sounded interesting, so we made it our next stop.
We stood and looked out into the turbulent sea just as the fog started to cover the sun and the wind started howling around us.
The view to the side of the giant punch bowl was even more spectacular.
Out of nowhere, rain started falling heavily upon us. We were getting drenched, so we ran into this little building called The Flying Dutchmen Winery to warm up before heading further down the Oregon Coast.
The lady who was working there was super friendly and entertaining. She noticed me looking at the rack of postcards (I collect one at every place I travel too) and ended up chatting with Josh and I for a good hour before we continued on.
One thing I have always wanted to see was a light house. We drove under this gorgeous bridge to get to the trailhead of The Haceta Head Lighthouse.
Just a short 5 minute hike up the cliff side and here it was…
I was beyond thrilled to see this view…
With still plenty of daylight left, we continued driving on down the Oregon Coast to spend the night in Newport, Oregon.
