Lately I’ve been struggling to find inspiration within my own city. I’ve never lived anywhere else but Southern California and I feel like I know this place like the back of my hand. The frustration continued to build until I finally decided to do something different. I got in the car and just drove around. I was determined to see my home from an outsiders perspective and find something new. And so I did…

I’ve driven by this dog park a thousand times, but seeing that I don’t own a dog, I’ve never felt compelled to stop here. For whatever reason, something told me today was the day to just go check it out.

Why not?

I pulled over and parked in the gravel parking lot. I figured I would just walk along the perimeter to get some fresh air. Who knew this beautiful valley of sprawling green grass was hidden behind it?!

My heart swelled with joy.

Lesson learned – there is always something to discover, no matter where you live.

So, my friend. I challenge you to go out and explore today!

Detox from the virtual world and connect with nature.

Even if you swear you have explored every inch of your city, take a different path than usual and look again.

I promise you there is something waiting to be found.

Do you have any cool spots you have discovered in your city?

When I find a great spot like my local nature center to film, it becomes my go to spot for almost everything. I know it so well that I can predict what I will find there pretty much every time I pay a visit.

But the familiarity also stifles creativity to a certain extent I think as well.

venturing out to destinations unknown is a great way to get your shooting mojo back as well as discovering new places that can become your new go to destination.

I’ll always return to my local nature center but I’m making it a point this year to venture out around the area and discover new places to take off the lens cap!

It is amazing what you find when you explore your own area, thanks for the reminder 🙂

That would be going to my first game ever when I was 12 to see the Jets take on Wayne Gretzky and the LA Kings. Even though we were in the nose beldes I was so excited to see hockey live. I was there with my friend and his mom and after the game we got some autographs from some of the player after the game. A close second would be when they announced that the Jets were coming back to were they belonged on my birthday. Best birthday gift ever!
