A Change Of Perspective

Birth. Reproduction. Death. In those terms, life should be rather simple right? But add in the costs of supporting yourself during that life span, and things start to get complicated. Shelter, food, and water – all things each human being needs to survive, and yet so often struggles to obtain due to the rising cost of living. Just a few months ago, we were part of that struggle.

We were living the “American Dream” or so it seemed. We had two cars, two decent 9-5 jobs, an adorable cat and an apartment to house all our stuff. Perfection in the eyes of society.

Or was it?

We both would wake up at the crack of dawn to commute to work on time, come home as the sun set, eat dinner, then spent the few moments of energy we had left entertaining our kitten before heading to bed. And the next day? We did it all over again.

The negative cycle broke us down. We became tired, unenthused with life, and often resorted to picking fights over nothing. Then something changed. I remember coming home from work one day, absolutely exhausted and wanting nothing more than to quite my job, when I realized that the only way things would change, was if I made them change.

After a long talk about what we both wanted – the freedom to travel, work on the road, and explore this beautiful world, I decided to quite my day job. As Socrates once said, “The secret to change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” So that’s exactly what we have been working on doing these past two years, building a new life for ourselves. A simpler life. One that we can be proud to say we are ready to jump out of bed and start the day for.

And that brings us to today, finally living our dream as wedding photographers and bloggers, exploring one new place at a time.

How has your life changed in the last year?
