1976 Vintage Airstream Renovation : Week 3
This week we are scrambling to finish as much as possible. Over the summer we subleased a townhouse with two other roommates, and our lease ends this weekend! When we bought our vintage Airstream, we thought we would be mostly doing cosmetic work, and rebuilding the furniture, but it ended up being a lot more complicated than that, and we have now run out of time! Fortunately, we have a great family that is going to let us crash in their spare room for the next month. Thank goodness for that. Lesson learned : never underestimate the amount of work or time involved with a renovation. We are biting our nails trying to get this Airstream rolling. So, first task of the week, get the barrings repacked, and new tires put on!
Since we fixed the outside window succesfully last week, we have decided to break all of the smaller window interior panes of glass so we can clean out the old tint that has fallen in-between the two panes of glass. Then we repainted the window structure and cover with white Rustoleum spray paint. They are a work in progress…
Josh went outside to install the locks for all the service doors that we had a locksmith rebuild. My grandpa is finishing up the electrical and I’m installing more insulation with my grandma. I just noticed that Josh, my grandpa and I all happened to wear red…weird haha.
There’s always time for a selfie!!
There isn’t any running water where we are renovating the Airstream, so we usually bring enough water bottles to keep up hydrated for the day. Today we ran out and we may have got a little desperate and drank from the Sparklette’s water we were going to use to test the fresh water tank…
I don’t think I’ll share the embarrassing video of me trying to lift the same water jug that Josh took…. All in all, it was a very productive week, and we are pretty excited to finally be putting the walls back up.
It’s starting to look more like a home! We’re so excited! If you just started following our journey, feel free to pop back to the beginning to see what you missed…
